Verstappen Wins Canadian Grand Prix for Third Year in a Row
Red Bulls Max Verstappen won a pulsating Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on Sunday after a tense duel.
Verstappen started from pole position and led for most of the race, but Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz closed the gap in the closing laps. However, Verstappen held on to win by just 0.993 seconds.
The victory was Verstappen’s sixth of the season and extended his lead in the drivers’ standings to 46 points. It was also his third consecutive win in Canada, making him the first driver to achieve that feat since Michael Schumacher in 2002-04.
Sainz finished second, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton completing the podium. Fernando Alonso was fourth for Alpine, ahead of team-mate Esteban Ocon.
The race was run in wet conditions, which made it difficult for drivers to keep their cars on track. There were several crashes, including one involving Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi. Both drivers were unhurt.
