Ron Howard Expresses Concern Over Trump and Vance Campaign Rhetoric
Director of 'Hillbilly Elegy' Shares His Thoughts on the Divisive Political Climate
Acclaimed filmmaker Ron Howard has voiced his concern about the divisive rhetoric employed by former President Donald Trump and Ohio Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Howard, who directed the 2020 film adaptation of J.D. Vance's memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," shared his apprehension about the current political landscape.
"I'm concerned about the rhetoric that's being used, particularly by Trump and Vance," Howard said. "It's very divisive and it's not helping to bring people together."
Howard specifically pointed to Trump's recent comments about the 2020 election, which he continues to falsely claim was stolen from him. Vance, a staunch Trump supporter, has echoed these claims and has also made controversial statements about immigration and race.
"It's important to have civil discourse and to be respectful of different viewpoints," Howard said. "But when you have people making inflammatory statements, it makes it difficult to have a productive conversation."
Howard's concerns are shared by many Americans who are worried about the increasing polarization in the country.
A recent poll by the Pew Research Center found that 84% of Americans believe that the country is more divided than it was a decade ago.
Howard believes that it's important for all Americans to come together and find common ground.
"We need to find a way to bridge the divide and to work together to solve the challenges that we face," he said. "We're all in this together."
